Not a huge fan of grumpy on Twitter and Tumblr. I’ll put up with grumpy if you’re funny. And people do have bad days.
But if it’s the All-Grumpy All-The-Time Grumpy Grump Grump Variety Hour, I’m out.
World’s depressing enough.
WORD.
I feel like “All-Grumpy All-The-Time Grumpy Grump Grump Variety Hour” is the best way I’ve ever been described.
“But they’re permanent.”
Show me anyone or anything permanent and I will give...

It’s funny that conservatives keep pointing out the E.P.A. as this ridiculous, useless agency, when, in fact, it’s a success story.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, and growing up I heard endless stories about acid rain.
In the 1990s, the EPA...

Things seen/heard at a used bookstore
“Is this book used?”
A man wearing a shirt with the name “Boozy” embroidered on it.
“There are too many books!”
To be continued…
Also? I may post videos from Saveur, but left to my own devices, I’m less likely to use garlic and more likely to do unspeakable things to Hostess Orange cupcakes in the privacy of my office.

Welcome to fame. Here’s your basket of cocaine and disdain for the common man.
Sweet. I’ve always thought I had too much care for the common man. Fuck him!
wow
I post a silly little video and it takes off. I even got my first “FOOD” tag in bright blue.

My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos...

At least one book on this list was burnt, and it mentions Ted Hughes burning one of Sylvia Plath’s journals.
Would people please stop burning things? They might be interesting in the future.

In excellent news
I now have a piece of paper saying despite my registration sticker saying August, I still had valid registration when I was pulled over Monday. If it comes to it, I’m going to drive to Indiana to fight that ticket.
I've been doing some hard travelin
Miles driven: 1,471
Gas mileage: 40.6 mpg
States driven through: 5
Hours behind the wheel: ~25
Beds slept in: 3
Nights of good sleep: 0
Times I complained about that: 1,000,000
States in which a Half Price Books was visited: 2
Family-sized bags of Twizzlers consumed: 2
Hours spent in a funeral home: 7
Funerals attended: 1
Eulogies delivered: 1

There’s a guy eating breakfast across from me who’s a dead ringer for Kurt Vonnegut. I’ve been able to refrain from asking for his autograph.
Eulogy for William O. "Sunny" Sloan, 1936-2011
I was asked to say a few words, And it’s been difficult. There are no words that can express loss well enough, and no words good enough to comfort the family.
The suddenness makes it difficult. I found myself combing through lifetime’s worth of stories, but which ones do I tell? Do I talk about how one of my earliest memories is that he and Rosemarie would have us over to watch...
The eulogy went as well as things like that can go. It’s all over but the eating.
My other thought for the night: When I post serious things, my curled-mustache avatar makes it look silly.
So the eulogy is written. And I’m no longer needed as a pall bearer.
My thought for the night: You don’t contemplate the mortality of others. When they die, it feels unfair. And it is; death is unfair, and it’s scary, and it makes us feel alone. But we’re not, really.
Boy, you've gotta carry that weight
As is customary at family funerals, I’m going to be a pall bearer tomorrow.
And I’ve also been asked to speak. What I’m going to say is still an open question.
As befits a trip home for a funeral, it's been a...
Well, at least in parts. The first two-thirds were fine, with light traffic and a bit of rain. Then I got pulled over in Indiana. Got a warning for my speed, but a ticket for lapsed registration. Which is crap, because Iowa gives you a 30-day grace period. Indiana does not, apparently.
The cop was cool enough to not impound the car, and Emily was able to renew the registration on her iPhone....

Thanks to all who hearted/said nice things
It’s my mother’s birthday on Monday. I feel terrible she has to go through this on her birthday.
He's gone
Two words can knock the breath from your lungs, even if they’re expected. But when they’re sudden, when they come with no warning, it’s unbelievable.
William “Sunny” Sloan died this afternoon. My mother, his sister, was at his side. He was her oldest brother.
If you’re the praying kind, please keep my mother, his children and grandchildren and my other uncle...
