I want to build more things than I do, write more than I do and play music more than I do. All opinions here are my own, unless they are correct, in which case they're likely stolen.

I’m giving a presentation on Thursday to high school journalists about how they can use social media (oh, how I’ve come to loathe that word) in their reporting.

I made this slide to illustrate the differences between newspapers and the digital world. The left half represents newspapers, the right half social media sites.

I thought up little back stories for the journalist (bottom right figure in the left half) and all the characters in the right half.

The journalist is lonely because no one is talking to him, and also a little bit self-righteous (he IS a journalist, after all).

On the right side, the people are talking about (clockwise from top left): the upcoming municipal elections, the crowded field for next year’s Republican primary for governor of Iowa, LOLcats and Texts from Last Night.

What do you mean everyone doesn’t do things like that?
