Tumblr is missing out
Because I’d gladly pay them $1 for a Tumblr app that actually worked, or for any of a thousand other features. But a new way for people to promote themselves?
Pass.
My 5,000th post on Tumblr was a reblog that (indirectly) complains about Tumblr
That seems about right, doesn’t it?
I’m expecting this to get bounced, but seriously. How fucking irritating is that modal scare window?
An email I sent to Tumblr Support:
I’m writing not to report a problem with my account but rather to ask why I have gotten the modal window warning me of the dangers of using Missing-e at least twice a day since late December, despite my having agreed—several times now—that I’m willing to forgo any support from Tumblr. If you want me to uninstall it, you certainly have the right to make that a condition of my using Tumblr. But you have not done so, and I’ve agreed to your terms. So why do I continue to see the same nag screen over and over?
I know it isn’t the fault of the people on the support desk, but I submit the following: The wonky, unpredictable, and fundamentally broken way in which Tumblr is handling the missing-e scare screen is evidence of the fact that the founders haven’t learned many lessons from the successes and failures of various social sites over the past four or five years.
I know that there’s no way to please everyone, but asking a dialog box to work can’t be asking too much, can it?
